Access the industry's best vacation insurance companies through Progressive travel insurance from InsureMyTrip. You can quote, compare, and buy affordable plans to cover your concerns at a price that fits your budget. Plus, you'll travel worry-free knowing your trip is insured and backed by three guarantees:
A comprehensive travel policy gives you the most coverage — it typically includes trip cancellation, trip interruption, lost baggage, emergency medical coverage, emergency evacuation, and more. But each policy and insurer is different, so compare your options carefully. Here's how each of the coverages on a comprehensive policy generally work.
COMPREHENSIVE PLAN COVERAGES
Get reimbursed for up to 100% of your prepaid, nonrefundable trip costs if you need to cancel your trip before you leave due to qualifying unforeseen reasons.

If your trip is interrupted for specific unforeseen circumstances covered by your plan, you may be reimbursed up to your plan's limits. Trip interruption covers your unused, prepaid, nonrefundable costs like flights, tours, and accommodations, plus qualifying cancellation fees.
You can add optional cancel for any reason (CFAR) trip protection to some comprehensive policies. If you need to cancel your trip for something other than one of the trip cancellation reasons listed on your policy, CFAR may allow you to be reimbursed for a portion of your prepaid, nonrefundable trip costs (usually 50–75%).*
If you need emergency medical or dental treatment due to a covered illness or injury during your trip, you may be reimbursed for care costs up to your coverage limits with a comprehensive policy. Treatment for pre-existing conditions is typically excluded from coverage.
An optional pre-existing conditions waiver may be available on some plans if you purchase travel insurance within a certain time frame after your initial trip payment and you meet all other eligibility requirements. This waives the pre-existing conditions exclusion that applies to many other coverages like trip cancellation, trip interruption, and emergency medical.
If you suffer accidental death or a qualifying injury during your trip, your plan may pay out a benefit to you or your beneficiary.
Get reimbursed if your personal property is lost, stolen, or damaged on your trip up to your policy's limits. Learn more about coverage for lost luggage.
You'll have access to 24-hour assistance if you need emergency medical care or evacuation, travel support, or business services during your trip.
Each travel insurance policy has its own coverages, so read the plan details carefully to understand what's covered and what's excluded.
Cancel for any reason coverage can be added to, but is not automatically included in, some comprehensive plans. Vacation rental damage coverage is only included on a standalone vacation rental policy. Pre-existing health conditions are generally excluded from coverage unless you add on a pre-existing conditions waiver.
Through InsureMyTrip, you can compare and quote comprehensive plans or standalone coverages like medical, accidental death, vacation rental, and more. Review the coverage each plan type offers before deciding which is best for your trip. These are the plan types available via InsureMyTrip:
Comprehensive plans offer the most protection for your trip and usually include coverage for trip cancellation, trip interruption, trip delay, lost baggage, overseas medical and dental, emergency evacuation, 24-hour traveler assistance, and accidental death benefit. You may also be able to add on cancel for any reason coverage.
Travel medical insurance is designed to fill in the gaps of your primary health insurance while you're traveling internationally. This plan is best if you're primarily concerned about emergency medical costs while you're out of the country and you don't plan to get a comprehensive policy, which also includes medical coverage.
A medical evacuation plan covers your transport assistance and costs if you become ill or injured while traveling. If your physician and the assistance company feel you'd be better cared for at a different facility, this plan type generally covers your transportation to the nearest suitable facility. If you'd like to determine which hospital you'll be transported to, look for evacuation plans with a "hospital of choice" benefit.
Similar to how AD&D life insurance works, an AD&D travel plan can pay out the coverage amount to your named beneficiary if you die on your trip. Many can also pay out to you if you suffer a qualifying serious injury on the trip. The payout would be in addition to any applicable life insurance you have. When you compare AD&D travel plans, you may be able to choose between 24/7 coverage and flight-specific coverage.
If you're a U.S. resident and your vacation rental is accidentally damaged during your trip, a vacation rental policy can cover up to a set limit of property damage costs. You may be able to choose your coverage limit. Some vacation rental plans also include coverage for trip cancellation, trip interruption, baggage loss, and more.
Remember, comprehensive plans typically include the most benefits. Consider other plans if you only need specialized or increased coverage. Learn more about how travel insurance works.
